STRESS: The Miriam Webster Dictionary Version
By Kimberly Kalfas, ND
I would like you to take a moment and read the definition of stress as determined by the online version of the Miriam Webster Dictionary:
- constraining force or influence: as
- a force exerted when one body or body part presses on, pulls on, pushes against, or tends to compress or twist another body or body part; especially : the intensity of this mutual force commonly expressed in pounds per square inch
- the deformation caused in a body by such a force
- a physical, chemical, or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension and may be a factor in disease causation
- a state resulting from a stress; especially : one of bodily or mental tension resulting from factors that tend to alter an existent equilibrium stress
- strain, pressure, stress to the point of collapse - Joseph Shoben
- emphasis, weight, stress on a point
- (archaic) intense effort or exertion
- intensity of utterance given to a speech sound, syllable, or word producing relative loudness
-
- relative force or prominence of sound in verse
- a syllable having relative force or prominence
Now I would like for you to try something: STOP and GET OUT A PIECE of PAPER RIGHT NOW!
I want you to list as fast as you can in one minute, all of your stressors. Physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
DO IT, DON'T READ ON, JUST DO IT!!!!! Please?
Okay, take that list, and put it in your purse, or wallet, or somewhere safe. You have two choices: You can leave it there, stuffed, hidden, and untouched for now, forever…
OR you can bring it in to your neighborhood Naturopathic Doctor and together we can work through it.
Now, take a 5 minute break (that was 6 minutes in total…okay, maybe 16 since you read the definitions too), and use this Peaceful Pause in your day.
Have a stress-free rest of your day (or night…sweet dreams), and if you would like to make an appointment, please call us at 425-996-8600 or go to the online scheduling link.
